PUBLIC BEACHES OF MARTHA'S VINEYARD
Summertime Tips

Vineyard Haven
Owen Park Beach (Tisbury Town Beach): On Vineyard Haven Harbor next to the Vineyard Haven Yacht Club. Parking at the end of Owen Little Way. Clean sand, small waves, a good place for children, or to watch the boats and harbor activity.

Lake Tashmoo Beach: At the end of Herring Creek Road. Clear, warm salt water in Lake Tashmoo, small waves and cool salt water in Vineyard Sound.

Oak Bluffs
Oak Bluffs Town Beach: A very popular, busy beach. Calm, shallow water on Nantucket Sound.

Eastville Beach: At the drawbridge between Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven. Calm waves, clear water and sunset views.

Joseph Sylvia State Beach: On Nantucket Sound, two miles of calm waves and clear water along Beach Road between Oak Bluffs and Edgartown. A good family beach.

Edgartown
Katama or South Beach: Three miles of beautiful barrier beach on the south shore - Atlantic Ocean. Fine surf but the undertow can be fierce.

Lighthouse Beach: On the harbor, off North Water Street near the center of town. A beautiful spot with calm water. Water sports keep this a busy harbor, however. The gentle waves on the outer part of the beach are safer for small children.

Fuller Street Beach: At the end of Fuller Street near Lighthouse Beach.

East Beach: On Chappaquiddick Island. A serene place for fishing, swimming and sunbathing. (Subject to regulations of The Trustees of Reservations TTOR.) There is a small admissions fee for walkovers and a charge for auto access. Permits can be obtained at the property's gate house for over sand access.

West Tisbury
Long Point Wildlife Refuge Beach: On the south shore. Beautiful, isolated beach with a good surf. Follow the nature trails to Tisbury Great Pond, a brackish water pond, then to the ocean. (Subject to regulations of The Trustees of Reservations TTOR.) Must purchase sticker from TTOR office near the beach. Parking lot fills early.

Chilmark
Menemsha: Next to Menemsha Harbor, a gentle beach fun and safe for kids with clear, cool water. Known for its spectacular sunsets.

Aquinnah (Gay Head)
Gay Head Public Beach (Moshup Beach): A surf beach off Moshup Trail near Gay Head Cliffs. A 10-minute walk from parking lot ($15.00 parking fee in summer). A prime beach for bathing and swimming. Travel Channel's Top 10 "Best Beaches" List.

Lobsterville Beach: Two miles of calm, beautiful beach along Vineyard Sound. Look for shells and sea glass amongst the dunes. Also a favorite fishing spot. Limited parking on Lobsterville Road.
